Finally able to blog! (Thanks, new laptop :)

So, I was thinking about a more interesting way to give my opinions on some of the latest anime… and since anime is released in quarters (January/April/July/&October) and because I am still a student, a “progress report” might be a good way to start things. Therefore, based on what I have watched so far, here we go :)

small image Winter 2012: Favorite Characters

March 31, 2012 12:49 pm by small image

I did this sort of post for summer and fall of last year, so I might as well continue that tradition and list a few of my favorite characters from the winter 2012 anime I watched.

Greetings everyone, it’s been a while since my last post on Yumestate. This week/next week concludes most of our Winter 2012 series, Another, Nisemonogatari, and Amagami SS+ Plus. Instead of doing an episodic review, I think it’s better to look at each series and see what we thought of it, what we like, what we don’t like, and how will we expect the anime to conclude.

This post will contain some minor spoilers, more specifically related to story development than anything. I will not ruin any major spoilers for any anime series, but for the sake of preventing any unwanted information about shows you may be interested in watching, I’d suggest at least watching an episode or two before reading this.

Just wanted to write up a quick post on the winter anime I’m watching before the season ends! Not much time left for all these shows, so I’m pretty excited to see how they’ll all end! Note that there may be spoilers for Kill Me Baby, Natsume Yuujinchou, and especially for Mirai Nikki and Another. Make sure you’re up to date on these shows before reading on!

I’ll start with Kill Me Baby.

small image Winter 2012 Season So Far

February 27, 2012 10:33 pm by small image

Greetings everyone, I’m back from my trip to Hong Kong and Japan. I spent the two weeks visiting family, hiking the mountains, sight-seeing the city, experiencing the culture, eating all different kinds of cuisine, and shopping for my favourite goods that can’t be found in Canada (or is hard to come by). Even though I was only gone for two weeks, having to re-adjust my schedule was definitely not fun and took a lot of time to fix. Read more…

As in most seasons, winter of 2012 has given us a good variety of anime to check out. For comedy I’ve been enjoying Kill Me Baby, and I’ve gotten my slice-of-life fix through Natsume Yuujinchou Shi. But most of all, I’ve been quite pleased with the mystery and horror of Another, which has done an excellent job with not only its atmosphere, but its plot as well. Essentially every scene of this series has fulfilled specific purposes, presenting more pieces of the puzzles and delving deeper into ominous tones and motifs. For this post, I’d like to focus on how the characters have been presented over the course of the series so far, and how Another has managed to effectively alter viewer perception of them without actually changing their core personalities.

Note that there will be spoilers for the first five episodes in this post! Don’t read on if you haven’t finished episode five yet. This is definitely not a series you want to be spoiled for, as the story relies heavily on clever plot twists.

small image Winter 2012: Week 3

With the third week starting for most series, we will be looking at Another episode 2 and Amagami SS+ plus episode 3. Apparently the actual name for Amagami SS+ is “Amagami SS+ plus”, with the not only the symbol “+” but also the word “plus” included in the name. I don’t quite understand why the creators named it this, but I rather be more brief in my coverage so I’ll stick to Amagami SS+. I covered Nisemonogatari in a previous post which can be found here. Anyways..

Note: At the time of starting this post, it was Week 1 of Winter 2012. Obviously that’s not the case anymore, but I will try to stammmy more current from now on!

Greetings everyone, it’s been some time since my last post, so I thought I would briefly discuss what’s happening so far in terms of my personal life. After enduring a really tough school year full of exams and group projects, I am finally free! Graduating from Business Management, I will be hopefully finding a job soon related to something in my field. As you may have noticed, I have been quite inactive around YumeState for the past couple of months because of this. Rest assured though, I will be updating and working diligently now to bring you the best Yumestate has to offer.

small image Cholisose’s Picks for Winter 2012

I think I’ve seen all the first episodes for the shows that looked promising to me for winter, and I’ve whittled down my list to two to definitely watch, two to probably watch, and two to maybe watch.
